Portraits

Four months: The amount of time it has been since my last post. Uh...yeah.

My first semester of school was a learning experience that goes way beyond textbooks. Never again-and I do mean never- will I consider a career in computers. I changed my major one month into the semester.

I learned a little about life, and a lot about myself. I made some new friends and I was humbled greatly. Perhaps the greatest education is my renewed sense of determination. Reality can do that to you...one quick swoop and your lovely little card castle of denials and delusions is scattered on the floor. I started my new semester last week and I am already feeling ten times happier in the pursuit of my new career choice. There are no words to describe the comfort of finding one's niche in the world.

Life has been a natural ebb and flow of ups and downs. But in the midst of it all my family has carried me through. Lately, Isabella has taken to drawing pictures of everyone in the family. Perhaps I'm biased, but my favorites are the ones she draws of me. My bulletin board I use for homework assignments is dotted with pictures of little potato people sporting googly eyes and crooked smiles. It makes me the happiest mommy of all to know that this is how she views me in her little mind.

DIY challenge # 1

I have always wanted to try making my own light box for various and sundry photography. I'm not entirely sure what got into me this afternoon, (actually I do know, it was homework procrastination) but I found this amazing tutorial that seemed so doable I simply had to try it out for myself. I had to, ya hear? had to.

Here is the link from the 'tute' I used.

http://www.studiolighting.net/homemade-light-box-for-product-photography/

I basically used all of the same supplies from the tutorial verbatim...but here is a pic of how I made the actual box and what I used.

For the box itself, foam board, scissors, exacto knife, white duct tape or masking tape, and a yard stick should do nicely. The tutorial says not to use duct tape, but I'm a rebel. I'll let ya know how this works out for me.

I cut my notches just like he said to. Sometimes I like to listen.

Please pardon cluttered dining room table and poor picture quality. This is the box before I trimmed down my excess edges and cut out my "trap door"

I picked up a few inexpensive clip lights at Lowe's I really wish I had gotten a fourth one. What was I thinking? But anywhosies...this is the box, trap door and all. Ta-Da!

Here are a couple of pictures I took to demonstrate.

The necklace I was wearing.

The nearest book sitting on my work table. I love this book. Soon I will show you it's bounty.

So, there you have it! My version of the world's most awesome tutorial for a home made lightbox. I would say, from start to finish it took me about one hour, and total cost was roughly around $40 but only because I needed lightbulbs, otherwise I would say about $38 :)

Why, hello there :)

Hi There! Welcome to my new digs! While Peaches And Posh will always hold a special place in my heart, it's time for a change. I made that blog during a different chapter of my life. Things are different now. Real different.

New beginnings mean new adventures, new adventures mean new musings, and new musings require new blogs :)

I can't wait to chronicle this new chapter in my life! I can't promise you it'll always be pretty, I can't promise you it'll always be perky, but I guarantee you this, it'll sure as heck be real.
